Coinbase statement to Excel, in short

Coinbase lets you generate a statement under Settings, Accounts, Statements in HTML, PDF, or CSV. The PDF is the version people actually keep and forward, and it is the one a CPA or auditor will accept as the account record. Upload that PDF here and every line becomes a spreadsheet row with date, transaction type, asset, quantity, USD amount, and fees, so you can total proceeds, rebuild cost basis, and reconcile against Form 1099-DA. Last updated July 2026.

Why Coinbase Statements Are Hard to Work With at Tax Time

Coinbase is an exchange, not a bank, and its records were built for the app rather than for a spreadsheet. That shows up the moment a CPA needs a complete, provable history.

The PDF Is the Copy You Actually Have

Clients forward the monthly statement PDF, not a CSV. It reads fine on screen and turns into unaligned text the second you paste it into Excel.

Cost Basis Is Missing Before 2026

Coinbase is not required to track cost basis for crypto bought before January 1, 2026, so 2025 sales can show proceeds with no basis behind them. Rebuilding it means going back through the statements.

Transferred In Assets Have No Basis Either

Move coins in from another wallet or exchange and Coinbase has no idea what you paid. Form 1099-DA reports what it knows, and the gap is yours to document.

Activity Is Split Across Products

Simple buys, Advanced Trade fills, staking rewards, and self custody Coinbase Wallet activity do not all live in one export, so a single statement is rarely the whole picture.

Fees Are Buried Inside the Line

The spread and the transaction fee affect basis and proceeds, but they are printed as part of the entry rather than as their own column you can sum.

Closed and Archived Accounts

If the account is closed or the period is old, the statement PDF you saved may be the only record left. There is no export to regenerate.

What the Converter Does With a Coinbase Statement

It reads the statement the way a person reads it and writes each line out as structured data, so the numbers are ready for a gain and loss schedule instead of a retyping job.

One Row per Transaction

Date, transaction type, asset, quantity, spot price, USD subtotal, fees, and total each land in their own column.

Asset and Quantity Kept Separate

The coin symbol and the amount held are not fused into one string, so you can sum BTC separately from ETH and USDC.

Fees Split Out

Transaction fees come out as their own column, which is what you need to add to basis on a buy and subtract from proceeds on a sale.

Merge Every Month

Upload twelve monthly statements together and get one continuous sheet in date order rather than twelve files to stitch.

Excel or CSV Output

Download an .xlsx workbook for review or a CSV you can feed into crypto tax software or your own basis schedule.

No API Key Required

Nothing connects to your exchange account. You upload a document you already have and delete it when you are done.

Convert a Coinbase Statement in 3 Steps

Under a minute per statement, and nothing to install.

1

Generate the Statement

In Coinbase go to Settings, Accounts, then Statements. Pick the asset, transaction type, and date range, choose PDF, and select Generate.

Tip: On mobile it is Account and settings, then Statements.

2

Upload It Here

Drag the PDF into the box above. Add every month you need at once if you are working on a full tax year.

Tip: Multiple files merge into one sheet.

3

Download Excel or CSV

Review the rows, then save as XLSX or CSV and open it in Excel, Google Sheets, or your tax workpapers.

Tip: Check the totals against the statement.

Who Converts Coinbase Statements

Almost always someone who has to prove a number to the IRS, a client, or a lender, and who only has the PDF to work from.

CPAs and Tax Preparers

Build a gain and loss schedule from client statements and tie it back to the 1099-DA the exchange filed.

Crypto Investors

Rebuild years of buys into a basis schedule, especially for coins acquired before brokers started tracking basis.

Business Owners Paid in Crypto

Turn exchange activity into revenue and expense rows your bookkeeper can post alongside the bank statements.

Forensic and Family Law Accountants

Document exchange activity for a divorce, an audit, or a bankruptcy filing where the PDF is the evidence of record.

How do I get a Coinbase statement?

Sign in on desktop, click your profile icon, then Settings, then Accounts, then Statements. On the mobile app, open the main menu and choose Account and settings, then Statements. You can download a statement that already exists, or generate a custom one by picking the asset, the transaction type, and the date range, then choosing HTML, PDF, or CSV and selecting Generate. Most people take the PDF because it is the version that reads like a real account record.

Coinbase gives me a CSV already. Why convert the PDF?

Because the CSV and the PDF are not the same job. The CSV is a live export from an account you still control. The PDF is the document that gets saved, emailed, and attached to a workpaper, and it is often the only thing a preparer receives. Here is where each one wins.

Form 1099-DA and why the statements still matter

Coinbase issues Form 1099-DA to US customers, and for tax year 2025 it reports gross proceeds to the IRS. Cost basis is shown to you but was not reported to the IRS for that year. Starting with tax year 2026, the form includes cost basis as well, which means the IRS can compare your reported gain against the broker figure line by line.

The catch is what the broker can actually know. Coinbase can only report basis for assets bought and held on its own platform, and it is not required to track basis for crypto purchased before January 1, 2026. Anything transferred in from another wallet or exchange arrives with no basis attached. So a 2025 sale of coins bought in 2019 can land on the form as proceeds with nothing behind them, and the burden of documenting what you paid falls on you. Converting the old monthly statements into one spreadsheet is the practical way to rebuild that history and defend the number.

What ends up in the spreadsheet

Each statement line becomes a row. The columns you care about for a basis schedule are the date, the transaction type, the asset, the quantity, the spot price at the time, the USD subtotal, the fee, and the total. With fees in their own column you can add them to basis on a buy and net them out of proceeds on a sale instead of eyeballing it. Sorting the sheet by asset and then by date gives you the running lot history for each coin, which is what a FIFO or specific identification calculation needs.

Coinbase, Coinbase Wallet, and Advanced Trade

These are different products and they do not share one record. The main Coinbase account covers simple buys, sells, converts, sends, receives, and rewards, and that is what the statement page produces. Advanced Trade fills are order level and are usually pulled separately. Coinbase Wallet is self custody, so the activity lives on chain and Coinbase does not issue a statement for it at all. If a client used more than one, ask for each record separately and merge the converted sheets rather than assuming a single statement is complete.

Tying crypto activity back to the bank

Money usually moves in both directions between a bank account and an exchange, and a clean set of books has to show both sides. Convert the bank side with the bank statement converter and match the USD deposits and withdrawals in the exchange sheet against the ACH lines in the bank statement. For investment accounts held elsewhere, the brokerage statement to Excel converter and the investment statement converter produce the same structured rows. Preparers pulling a whole return together will also want the bank statement conversion for tax filing guide and the converter built for tax preparers. If the work is an audit or a dispute rather than a return, see forensic bank statement analysis.

After the spreadsheet

Most preparers do not stop at Excel. If the client books run in QuickBooks Online, a CSV to QBO converter turns the exported rows into an importable file. For the receipts and invoices that back up crypto paid expenses, an invoice OCR tool pulls those into the same workpaper set. And once the transactions are tagged, you can categorize them and roll them into a profit and loss without retyping anything.

Coinbase Statement to Excel: Common Questions

On desktop, select your profile icon, then Settings, then Accounts, then Statements. On mobile, open the main menu and choose Account and settings, then Statements. Download an existing monthly statement or generate a custom one by choosing the asset, transaction type, and date range, then pick HTML, PDF, or CSV and select Generate.

Yes. Upload the statement PDF and each line becomes a spreadsheet row with date, transaction type, asset, quantity, spot price, USD amount, and fee in separate columns. Download it as XLSX or CSV. Upload several months at once and they merge into a single sheet in date order.

Yes. Coinbase issues Form 1099-DA to US customers and files it with the IRS. For tax year 2025 the form reports gross proceeds to the IRS, with cost basis shown to you only. From tax year 2026 the form also reports cost basis, so the IRS can compare your reported gain against the broker figure.

Coinbase can only track basis for assets bought and held on its platform, and it is not required to track basis for crypto purchased before January 1, 2026. Anything transferred in from another wallet or exchange also arrives with no basis. You document those purchases yourself, usually from older statements.

Generate statements covering every period you held the account, and request them for each product you used. The main account statement covers buys, sells, converts, sends, and rewards. Advanced Trade fills and self custody Coinbase Wallet activity are separate records, so pull those too before treating the history as complete.

Not reliably. Once an account is closed or restricted you may lose the ability to generate a new statement, which is why any PDF you saved earlier becomes the record. Converting those saved statements into a spreadsheet preserves the data in a form you can still work with.

Transaction fees on a purchase generally add to your cost basis, and fees on a sale generally reduce your proceeds. That is why the fee needs its own column rather than being folded into the total. The converter splits it out so the arithmetic is visible in the sheet.

No. Coinbase Wallet is self custody, so the activity sits on the blockchain rather than in a Coinbase account, and there is no statement page for it. You export that history from the wallet or a block explorer and merge it with the converted exchange statements.

The converter never asks for your exchange login, API key, or seed phrase. You upload a document you already have, it is encrypted in transit with 256-bit encryption, and you can delete it whenever you want. Nothing is connected to your account and no trades can be placed.
