Getting a PDF bank statement into MyCase, in short

MyCase Accounting cannot read a PDF bank statement. It takes bank activity from a Plaid feed, which pulls only the past 90 days when you connect, or from a CSV file under Accounting > Banking > Import Transaction from CSV. Convert the PDF to CSV, import it, map Transaction Date, Amount and Description, review each line under For Review, then reconcile to $0.00 under Bank Reconciliation.

Where Statements Get Stuck on the Way Into MyCase

MyCase Accounting handles trust and operating books well once the transactions are in. The work is getting them in when the feed stops short.

No PDF Import

Import Transaction from CSV takes a CSV file. The statement PDF your bank emails, or a scan a client drops off, is not something MyCase can open.

The Feed Stops at 90 Days

Connecting an account through Plaid pulls the past 90 days. Every month between your conversion date and that window has to come in by file.

Banks Plaid Cannot Reach

MyCase offers CSV import for accounts at banks Plaid does not support. Those accounts arrive as statements, month after month.

Mapping That Fails on Messy Files

The import needs one date format and a clear amount layout. Copying rows out of a PDF produces wrapped descriptions and mixed signs that will not map.

Trust Lines Must Match

Trust transactions cannot be categorized from the import, only matched to what is already recorded. A wrong amount leaves a line that never matches.

Reconciliations That Will Not Tie

One skipped line or flipped sign leaves a difference that is not $0.00, and the search through a month of activity starts.

What the Converter Gives a MyCase Firm

A clean CSV per account and statement period, shaped for the Map Columns screen so the review step is checking, not typing.

CSV MyCase Imports

One row per transaction with date, description, reference and amount, ready for Import Transaction from CSV. Excel too, on every plan.

Single or Multiple Column

Leave amounts in one signed column, or turn on Split Debit/Credit to match the Multiple Column bank feed type.

One Date Format

Turn on ISO dates and every row reads YYYY-MM-DD, so the Date Format you pick on the mapping screen fits the whole file.

Balances That Prove the Period

Opening, running and ending balances come with the rows, so you confirm the file ties before it reaches MyCase.

A Year of Statements at Once

On Plus, upload up to 50 PDFs in one batch when your conversion date is months behind the feed.

No Bank Login Shared

Nothing connects to the bank or to MyCase. Upload a statement, download a file, and delete the upload whenever you like.

From PDF Statement to Reconciled Account in 3 Steps

The routine for any month the Plaid feed does not cover, or any account it cannot connect.

1

Convert the Statement

Upload the PDF and download a CSV. Every transaction comes back with date, description, reference and amount.

Tip: Check that opening balance plus deposits minus withdrawals equals the ending balance.

2

Import and Map

In MyCase open Accounting > Banking, click the account, choose Import Transaction from CSV, upload, then map Transaction Date, Amount and Description.

Tip: Pick Multiple Column if you split debits and credits.

3

Review and Reconcile

Categorize or match each line under For Review, then open Bank Reconciliation, enter the statement ending date and tick items until the difference is $0.00.

Tip: Trust lines are matched, not categorized.

Who Converts Statements for MyCase

US law firms and legal bookkeepers who keep trust and operating books in MyCase Accounting.

Firms Starting MyCase Accounting

A conversion date earlier than 90 days back means months of history the feed will never pull. Convert and import them in one sitting.

Accounts Plaid Cannot Connect

Operating, trust or card accounts at a bank Plaid does not support come in by CSV every month.

Outside Legal Bookkeepers

Close several firms each month from the PDF statements partners forward, and keep reconciliations on schedule.

Firms With a Broken Feed

When a connection drops, the missing weeks still have to land before the month can be reconciled.

Can MyCase Accounting import a PDF bank statement?

No. MyCase Accounting brings bank activity in two ways: a Plaid bank feed, or a CSV file you upload with Import Transaction from CSV on the Banking tab. Neither reads a PDF. If the only record you have is the statement your bank emails each month, or a scan a client sent over, it has to become a CSV before MyCase can use it.

For most firms that only matters some of the time. The Plaid connection pulls the past 90 days of transactions when you link an account, so anything older than that, and any account at a bank Plaid cannot reach, comes in by file. MyCase says so in its own reconciliation help: if the account is not connected, import the bank statement as a .CSV file. That is the gap this page is about. Upload the PDF above, download a CSV with one row per transaction, and import it the same day.

Plaid bank feed or CSV import: which one does your firm need?

Both routes end in the same For Review list, where each line is categorized or matched. What differs is how far back you can reach and which banks are covered.

Feed and import behavior from the MyCase Support Center articles on connecting bank accounts, manually importing bank feed transactions and bank reconciliation.

Three situations push a firm onto the CSV route. The first is the conversion date: when you start MyCase Accounting you pick a date the books begin, and every month between that date and 90 days ago has to come in by file. The second is an account at a bank Plaid does not support, which MyCase names as the reason the CSV import exists. The third is a broken connection, where the feed stops and the months in between still need to land before you can reconcile.

How do I import bank transactions into MyCase?

Open the Accounting tab, go to Banking, click the bank account and choose Import Transaction from CSV. Browse to the file or drag it in, then click Upload Bank Transactions. MyCase shows a preview so you can confirm the columns came through as expected before anything is imported.

The Map Columns step is where most failed imports start. You choose a Bank Feed Type, Single Column when one signed amount column holds both money in and money out, or Multiple Column when debits and credits sit in separate columns. You pick the Date Format the file uses. Then you map Transaction Date and Description, and optionally Category and Reference. Each field turns from orange to green once it is mapped, and Submit finishes the import with a message showing how many transactions came in and whether any failed.

What should the CSV look like before you import it?

One row per transaction, one date format for the whole file, and amounts MyCase can read without guessing. The converter can give you either amount layout: turn on Split Debit/Credit for separate columns, or leave it off for a single signed amount. Turn on ISO dates if you want every date in one YYYY-MM-DD format.

Converted columnMyCase fieldWhy it matters
DateTransaction Date (required)Must match the Date Format you choose on the mapping screen
DescriptionDescription (required)The payee text Rules use to suggest a category
AmountTransaction Amount, Single ColumnOne signed column, deposits positive and withdrawals negative
Debit and CreditMultiple ColumnSeparate money out and money in, so no sign has to be inferred
Check number or referenceReference (optional)Makes matching a check to its logged entry faster
BalanceNot importedKeep it in the file to prove the period ties before you upload

Before you upload, check one number. Opening balance plus deposits minus withdrawals should equal the ending balance printed on the statement. If it does, every line made it across. If it does not, you find the gap in the spreadsheet in a minute rather than in the reconciliation screen an hour later.

How do I reconcile a bank account in MyCase Accounting?

Go to Accounting, then Bank Reconciliation, and click Reconcile An Account. Select the bank account, confirm the beginning and ending balances against the statement, choose the statement ending date and click Start Reconciling. Tick the items under Logged Journal Entries that appear on the statement until the difference reads $0.00, then click Save and Finish. The finished report stays under the same tab.

Before you get there, the imported lines need to be processed. In Banking, the For Review tab lists every imported transaction. Click Add on a line and either Categorize it, which creates a journal entry with the category Rules suggest, or use Find Match to link it to a record already in MyCase. You can also split a line or exclude it. Everything you process moves to the Reviewed tab.

What about trust accounts?

MyCase does not let you categorize trust account transactions from the bank import. Trust activity has to exist in MyCase already, recorded against the client, so the imported bank lines are there to be matched, not to create new entries. That is exactly what you want for trust compliance: the bank statement proves what the ledger says. A clean CSV with the right dates, amounts and check numbers makes each match a single click, and any line that will not match is the one worth investigating before the month is closed. For the full bank, journal and client ledger check, see three-way trust account reconciliation.

How much does MyCase Accounting cost?

MyCase sells accounting as an add-on to its practice management plans. The figures below were read from the MyCase pricing page in September 2026. Some review sites still quote older plan prices, so check the vendor page before you budget.

PlanBilled annuallyBilled monthly
Basic$50 per user per month$60 per user per month
Pro$100 per user per month$120 per user per month
Advanced$130 per user per month$150 per user per month
MyCase Accounting add-on$39 per user per month

Against that, statement conversion is a small line. BankXLSX Starter is $49 a month, or $24 a month billed yearly, for 2,500 pages with unlimited users, which covers a small firm with several trust and operating accounts many times over. Plus adds bulk upload of up to 50 statements at once, the plan to pick when you are loading a year of history on day one. See plans and page allowances.

Moving to MyCase Accounting mid-year

MyCase setup runs in a fixed order: set the conversion date, sync billing and payment data, connect and link bank and card accounts, run the general setup wizard, set up the chart of accounts, then enter opening balances. MyCase recommends taking opening balances from the first day of your next bank statement, which keeps the first reconciliation clean.

If your conversion date sits more than 90 days back, the feed will not cover the start of the year. Convert those statements in one batch, import one CSV per account per month, and reconcile month by month from the conversion date forward. Firms coming from another system can do the same; the Clio bank statement converter and CosmoLex bank statement converter pages cover the other two legal accounting platforms we see most, and catch-up bookkeeping covers rebuilding months that were never reconciled at all.

MyCase Bank Import and Reconciliation: Common Questions

No. MyCase Accounting imports bank transactions from a CSV file with Import Transaction from CSV on the Banking tab, or pulls them through a Plaid bank feed. A PDF statement has to be converted to CSV first. BankXLSX turns the PDF into a CSV with one row per transaction that maps straight onto the MyCase import screen.

When you connect an account through Plaid, MyCase downloads the past 90 days of transactions. Anything older, including months between your conversion date and that window, has to be imported from a CSV file. The feed also does not sync by itself: you click Update on the account to pull new activity.

Go to Accounting, then Banking, click the bank account and choose Import Transaction from CSV. Upload the file, check the preview, pick Single or Multiple Column and the Date Format, map Transaction Date and Description, and click Submit. MyCase then reports how many transactions were imported.

Transaction Date, Description, and either one Transaction Amount column or separate Debit and Credit columns. Category and Reference are optional. Use one date format for the whole file so it matches the Date Format you choose on the Map Columns screen.

No. MyCase does not allow trust account transactions to be categorized from the bank import. Trust activity has to be recorded in MyCase first, and the imported bank lines are matched to those records with Find Match. That keeps every trust dollar tied to a client.

Open Accounting, then Bank Reconciliation, and click Reconcile An Account. Choose the account, confirm the beginning and ending balances against the statement, set the statement ending date and click Start Reconciling. Tick the logged journal entries that appear on the statement until the difference is $0.00, then click Save and Finish.

The MyCase pricing page lists Basic at $50, Pro at $100 and Advanced at $130 per user per month billed annually ($60, $120 and $150 billed monthly), with MyCase Accounting as an add-on at $39 per user per month. Check the vendor page before budgeting, because some review sites still show older prices.

No, and it does not need to. You upload the PDF statement to BankXLSX, download the CSV, and import it in MyCase. Nothing links to your bank or your MyCase account, and you can delete the uploaded statement whenever you like.
